  • Deep Ks -near-infrared Surface Photometry of 80 Dwarf Irregular Galaxies in the Local Volume
We present deep near-infrared (Ks ) images and surface photometry for 80 dwarf irregular galaxies (dIs) within ~5 Mpc of the Milky Way. The galaxy images were obtained at five different facilities between 2004 and 2006. The image reductions and surface photometry have been performed using methods specifically designed for isolating faint galaxies

  • Compressed sensing for next generation instruments
This document discusses the possibility of using compressed sensing techniques for measuring 2D spectro-polarimetric information using only one etalon and a broad prefilter. Instead of using an etalon and an extremely narrow prefilter (with all the subsequent problems of alignment), the idea is to use multiplexing techniques to include in the

  • CODEX: An Ultra-stable High Resolution Spectrograph for the E-ELT
CODEX is the proposed optical high resolution spectrograph for the E-ELT. Designed to make the most of the unique light-gathering power of the E-ELT and to obtain superb stability, CODEX will open up a new parameter space in astrophysical spectroscopy. The wide-ranging science case has a large discovery potential in stellar, Galactic and extra

  • Characterization of horizontal flows around solar pores from high-resolution time series of images
Context. Though there is increasing evidence linking the moat flow and the Evershed flow along the penumbral filaments, there is not a clear consensus regarding the existence of a moat flow around umbral cores and pores, and the debate is still open. Solar pores appear to be a suitable scenario to test the moat-penumbra relation as they correspond
