  • How Important is Rotational Fission in the Trans-Neptunian Region?
We introduce the idea that rotational fission is a possible mechanism in the formation of systems of large TNOs: binary systems, complex systems (Haumea), and TNO pairs. We also present N-body simulations of rotational fission.

  • High resolution Halpha spectroscopy and R-band photometry of Swift J1357.2-0933
We report on high resolution Halpha spectroscopy and time-resolved photometry of the optical counterpart to the X-ray transient Swift J1357.2-0933 in outburst (Krimm et al. ATEL #3138). SPECTROSCOPY: Six 30-33 min spectra were obtained on the nights of 2011 Feb 25-27 using the IDS Spectrograph on the 2.5m Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) at the

  • Gran Telescopio Canarias OSIRIS transiting exoplanet atmospheric survey: detection of potassium in XO-2b from narrowband spectrophotometry
We present Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) optical transit narrowband photometry of the hot-Jupiter exoplanet XO-2b using the OSIRIS instrument. This unique instrument has the capabilities to deliver high-cadence narrowband photometric lightcurves, allowing us to probe the atmospheric composition of hot Jupiters from the ground. • Gamma-ray Excess from a Stacked Sample of High- and Intermediate-frequency Peaked Blazars Observed with the MAGIC Telescope
Between 2004 and 2009, a sample of 28 X-ray selected high- and intermediate-frequency peaked blazars with an X-ray flux larger than 2 μJy at 1 keV in the redshift range from 0.018 to 0.361 was observed with the MAGIC telescope at energies above 100 GeV. Seven among them were detected and the results of these observations are discussed elsewhere

  • Galaxy stellar mass functions of different morphological types in clusters, and their evolution between z= 0.8 and 0
We present the galaxy stellar mass function and its evolution in clusters from z˜ 0.8 to the current epoch, based on the WIde-field Nearby Galaxy-cluster Survey (WINGS) (0.04 ≤z≤ 0.07), and the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS) (0.4 ≤z≤ 0.8). We investigate the total mass function and find that it evolves noticeably with redshift. The shape at M*
