  • Advection and dispersal of small magnetic elements in the very quiet Sun
We track small magnetic structures on very quiet regions (internetwork) of the Sun. We follow the footpoints of small-scale magnetic loops that appear on the photosphere at granular scales using spectropolarimetric and magnetographic data obtained with Hinode. We find two different regimes for their wanderings. Within granules (where they appear)

  • A UKIDSS-based search for low-mass stars and small stellar clumps in off-cloud parts of young star-forming regions *
The form and universality of the mass function of young and nearby star-forming regions is still under debate. Its relation to the stellar density, its mass peak and the dependency on most recent models shows significant differencies for the various regions and remains unclear up to date. We aim to get a more complete census of two of such regions

  • A Search for Very High Energy Gamma-Ray Emission from Scorpius X-1 with the Magic Telescopes
The acceleration of particles up to GeV or higher energies in microquasars has been the subject of considerable theoretical and observational efforts in the past few years. Sco X-1 is a microquasar from which evidence of highly energetic particles in the jet has been found when it is in the so-called Horizontal Branch (HB), a state when the radio

  • A search for planets around intermediate Mass Stars with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope
We present the discovery of sub-stellar mass companions to three stars by the ongoing Penn State - Toruń Planet Search (PTPS) conducted with the 9.2 m Hobby-Eberly Telescope.

  • A Sauron Study of Dwarf Elliptical Galaxies in the Virgo Cluster
Dwarf elliptical galaxies are the most common galaxy type in nearby galaxy clusters, yet they remain relatively poorly studied objects and many of their basic properties have yet to be quantified. In this contribution we present the preliminary results of a study of 4 Virgo and 1 field galaxy obtained with the SAURON integral field unit on the
