  • OTELO project: first results
The OTELO project is the extragalactic survey currently under way using the tunable filters of theinstrument OSIRIS at the GTC. OTELO is providing the deepest emission line object survey of the universe up to a redshift 7. In this contribution, the first images will be shown together with some preliminary results.

  • Origin and fate of the most massive galaxies
In the last five years there has been cumulative evidence showing that massivegalaxies have dramatically grown in size since z ˜ 3. This result hasremained very controversial as it seems at odd with our previous knowledgebased on the detailed analysis of the stellar populations of nearby massivegalaxies which shows that their stars were form very

  • Optical Linear Polarization in the Case of Two Supernovae Associated to X-ray Flashes: XRF060218/SN2006aj and XRF080109/SN2008D
We present the polarization monitoring carried out for two SNe associated with GRBs: XRF060218/SN2006aj and XRF080109/SN2008D. For XRF060218/SN2006aj we measured a mean polarization of P˜4% at 2.6-5.6 days after the X-ray event. This is the highest polarization value ever measured for a supernova. We derived the intrinsic polarization of XRF080109

  • On the relationship between dynamical masses from spectral features in emission and other mass estimators for a sample of local star-forming galaxies
We have obtained both virial and dynamical masses of a sample oflocal star forming galaxies from the UCM survey. The rotational curvesmeasured using the kinematics of the ionized gas where used as tracersof the mass of the system. The goal is to obtain a relationship with fotometric stellar masses, calculated from population synthesis models, in
