  • An improved version of the implicit integral method to solving radiative transfer problems
Radiative transfer (RT) problems in which the source function includes a scattering-like integral are typical two-points boundary problems. Their solution via differential equations implies making hypotheses on the solution itself, namely the specific intensity I (τ; n) of the radiation field. On the contrary, integral methods require making

  • An eclipsing post-common-envelope binary in the field of the Kepler mission
We present a new eclipsing post-common-envelope binary, identified inside the Kepler field prior to the launch of the spacecraft. Multifilter photometry and radial velocity data are analysed with an eclipsing-binary modelling code to determine the physical parameters of the binary. Spectra of the system within the primary eclipse and uneclipsed

  • An active region filament studied simultaneously in the chromosphere and photosphere. I. Magnetic structure
Aims: A thorough multiwavelength, multiheight study of the vector magnetic field in a compact active region filament (NOAA 10781) on 2005 July 3 and 5 is presented. We suggest an evolutionary scenario for this filament. Methods: Two different inversion codes were used to analyze the full Stokes vectors acquired with the Tenerife Infrared

  • A search for naphthalene in diffuse interstellar clouds
We have obtained high-resolution optical spectroscopy of 10 reddened O-type stars with Ultraviolet and Visual Echelle Spectrograph at Very Large Telescope to search for interstellar bands of the naphthalene cation (C10H8+) in the intervening clouds. No absorption features were detected near the laboratory strongest band of this cation at 6707 Å

  • A precision study of two eclipsing white dwarf plus M dwarf binaries
We use a combination of X-shooter spectroscopy, ULTRACAM high-speed photometry and SOFI near-infrared photometry to measure the masses and radii of both components of the eclipsing post common envelope binaries SDSS J121258.25-012310.1 and GK Vir. For both systems, we measure the gravitational redshift of the white dwarf (WD) and combine it with
