  • Ultracool dwarfs in open clusters and star-forming regions
In this contribution I review the results of the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Galactic Clusters Survey (GCS) on the Initial Mass Function (IMF) and the current searches for young T dwarfs in open clusters and star-forming regions.

  • Transit spectroscopy with GTC
Thanks to different ground-based surveys and space missions, nowadays we have a fairly large sample of discovered extra-solar planets to study and, without a doubt, this number will increase in the future. One of the most succesful techniques that allows us to prove the physical properties and atmospheric composition of these exoplanets is

  • Theoretical formulation of Doppler redistribution in scattering polarization within the framework of the velocity-space density matrix formalism
Within the framework of the density matrix theory for the generation and transfer of polarized radiation, velocity density matrix correlations represent an important physical aspect that, however, is often neglected in practical applications when adopting the simplifying approximation of complete redistribution on velocity. In this paper, we

  • The Transit Monitoring in the South (TraMoS) project
We present the Transit Monitoring in the South (TraMoS) project. TraMoS has monitored transits of 30 exoplanets with telescopes located in Chile since 2008, whit the following goals: (1) to refine the physical and/or orbital parameters of those exoplanet system, and (2) to search for variations in the mid-times of the transits and in other

  • The sub-stellar birth rate from UKIDSS
We present a new sample of mid-L to mid-T dwarfs with effective temperatures of 1100-1700 K selected from the UKIDSS Large Area Survey (LAS) and confirmed with infrared spectra from X-shooter/Very Large Telescope. This effective temperature range is especially sensitive to the formation history of Galactic brown dwarfs and allows us to constrain

  • The puzzling merging cluster Abell 1914: new insights from the kinematics of member galaxies
We analyse the dynamical state of Abell 1914, a merging cluster hosting a radio halo, quite unusual for its structure. Our study considers spectroscopic data for 119 galaxies obtained with the Italian Telescopio Nazionale Galileo. We select 89 cluster members from spatial and velocity distributions. We also use photometry Canada-France-Hawaii
