  • Lupus I Observations from the 2010 Flight of the Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope for Polarimetry
The Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope for Polarimetry (BLASTPol) was created by adding polarimetric capability to the BLAST experiment that was flown in 2003, 2005, and 2006. BLASTPol inherited BLAST's 1.8 m primary and its Herschel/SPIRE heritage focal plane that allows simultaneous observation at 250, 350, and 500 μm. We flew

  • Low-mass companions to Bright Giants
Asymmetric Planetary Nebulae (APN) are formed by bipolar outflows through various mechanism like fast rotation (Blackman et al. 2001), magnetic field (Regos & Tout 1995) or binarity (Harpaz & Soker 1994; Soker 1996; Livio & Soker 2002). The binary scenario seems currently to be best supported by observations as the most efficient in producing the

  • Kinematical analysis of the galactic planetary nebulae M1-32
It is found that the planetary nebula M1-32, which has a [WC4-5] core, shows a peculiar kinematics with bipolar outflows reaching ±200 km/s, while the main body is expanding radially with velocity of 15 km/s (Akras & Lopez 2012 , MNRAS, 425,2197; Rechy-García etal in preparation). Medina et al. (2006, RMAA, 42, 53 74) found high velocity wings in

  • Internal Proper-Motions in the Eskimo Nebula
We present internal proper motion measurements of more than five hundred positions of NGC 2392, based on images acquired with the WFPC2 on bord of the Hubble Space Telescope for two epochs separated by 8.805 yr. We measured the amount of motion of local structures in the nebula determining their relative shift during that interval. We compared two

  • Global and Nonglobal Parameters of Horizontal-branch Morphology of Globular Clusters
The horizontal-branch (HB) morphology of globular clusters (GCs) is mainly determined by metallicity. However, the fact that GCs with almost the same metallicity exhibit different HB morphologies demonstrates that at least one more parameter is needed to explain the HB morphology. It has been suggested that one of these should be a global parameter

  • Gaia FGK benchmark stars: Metallicity
Context. To calibrate automatic pipelines that determine atmospheric parameters of stars, one needs a sample of stars, or "benchmark stars", with well-defined parameters to be used as a reference. Aims: We provide detailed documentation of the iron abundance determination of the 34 FGK-type benchmark stars that are selected to be the pillars for
