  • On the nature of Hα emitters at z ˜ 2 from the HiZELS survey: physical properties, Lyα escape fraction and main sequence
We present a detailed multiwavelength study (from rest-frame ultraviolet to far-infrared) of narrow-band selected, star-forming (SF) Hα emitters (HAEs) at z ˜ 2.23 taken from the High-Redshift(Z) Emission Line Survey (HiZELS). We find that HAEs have similar properties and colours derived from spectral energy distributions as sBzK galaxies, and

  • On the formation and evolution of the first Be star in a black hole binary MWC 656
We find that the formation of MWC 656 (the first Be binary containing a black hole) involves a common envelope phase and a supernova explosion. This result supports the idea that a rapidly rotating Be star can emerge out of a common envelope phase, which is very intriguing because this evolutionary stage is thought to be too fast to lead to

  • On the C60 Fullerene Adduct with Pentacene: Synthesis and Stability
C60 fullerene and pentacene were reacted under mild conditions in toluene, yielding the monoadduct, which was characterized by electronic absorption and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The C60/pentacene adduct was studied by thermogravimetric analysis and its experimental composition was found in line with the theory for a 1:1

  • Near-infrared polarimetric adaptive optics observations of NGC 1068: a torus created by a hydromagnetic outflow wind
We present J' and K' imaging linear polarimetric adaptive optics observations of NGC 1068 using MMT-Pol on the 6.5-m MMT. These observations allow us to study the torus from a magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) framework. In a 0.5 arcsec (30 pc) aperture at K', we find that polarization arising from the passage of radiation from the inner edge of the

  • Mid-IR characterization of substellar companions with CanariCam
The direct detection of extrasolar planets is the only technique that leads to the most complete characterization of their physical properties. Here, we report on mid-IR observations of five directly imaged substellar companions (DF Tau B, FU Tau B, κ And b, GJ 758 B, and GJ 504 b) obtained with the Si-2 filter (8.7 µm) in the CanariCam instrument

  • Measurement of the underlying event activity using charged-particle jets in proton-proton collisions at √{s}=2.76 TeV
A measurement of the underlying event (UE) activity in proton-proton collisions is performed using events with charged-particle jets produced in the central pseudorapidity region (| η jet| 2) and with transverse momentum 1 ≤ p {T/jet} 100 GeV. The analysis uses a data sample collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV with the CMS experiment
