The six-monthly meeting of the International Scientific Committee of the IAC observatories met in La Palma

It took place on May 24th and 25th in the meeting room of the Parador in Breña Baja

A large group of representatives of the various institutions which take part in the International Scientific Committee met face to face on the Island of La Palma last Tuesday and Wednesday, 24th and 25tnh of May, and they were joined remotely by further participants on-line.

In this meeting of the CCI (International Scientific Committee Spanish initials), they discussed, among other matters, the most recent scientific achievements at the Canary Observatories, as well as the status of new projects. In addition the progress of the IAC observatories was analyzed on the basis of the reports of the administrators and the Operations and Finance Subcommittees. Another theme of discussion was the current state of recovery of the island after the volcano crisis, and the possible lines of cooperation to contribute to this recovery.

The President of the Island Cabildo of La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, attended the meeting and made the closing address. In this he thanked the long-term collaboration of the IAC and of all the user institutions of the Roque de los Muchacnos Observatory (ORM) with the community on La Palma. He also recognized that the work lasting many years has situated La Palma on the front line of innovation in astrophysics. Finally he expressed his gratitutde for the support and advice given during the volcano crisis.

83rd CCI meeting
The International Scientific Committee (CCI for its Spanish initials) of the Canary Island Observatories offers the mechanism by which the institutions which are members to participate effectively in the decisión making which affects the operation of the telescopes. This morning the CCI has celebrated, in virtual form, the first of its two meetings per year, in which some thirty people took part.
