In an official act organized by the public company "GRANTECAN, S.A.", last June 2, H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias placed the "first stone" of the building of the "Gran Telescopio Canarias" (GTC), in the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), located in the municipality of Garafía, on the island of La Palma.   Referring to the project, Don Felipe stressed that "adventures like this are those that move people forward and unite them in the effective brotherhood that science, fortunately, is able to procure for them".  After his words, the Prince of Asturias introduced in the place of the first stone and enclosed in a cylinder a small hexagonal mirror that reproduces each one of the 36 that will form the main mirror of the GTC, a project of great science led by Spain.
