The New Robotic Telescope (NRT) will be a reflector telescope with an altazimuth mount and a Ritchey-Chrétien optical design, with the M1 (primary) and M2 (secondary) mirrors aligned by the telescope’s structure. Its primary mirror will be composed of hexagonal segments forming an optical surface equivalent to that of a 4-meter telescope. The telescope will operate fully robotically, through a control system, without human supervision, which will reduce costs, increase efficiency, and minimize environmental impact. This grant will mainly affect the development of the telescope control system, entirely robotic, which controls the different devices of the installation. This type of autonomous operation has not yet been achieved in telescopes of this scale.
