  • Evolution of Stokes V area asymmetry related to a quiet Sun cancellation observed with GRIS/IFU
A quiet Sun magnetic flux cancellation event at the disk center was recorded using the Integral Field Unit (IFU) mounted on the GREGOR Infrared Spectrograph (GRIS). The GRIS instrument sampled the event in the photospheric Si I 10827 Å spectral line. The cancellation was preceded by a significant rise in line core intensity and excitation

  • Evidence for Spin─Orbit Alignment in the TRAPPIST-1 System
In an effort to measure the Rossiter─McLaughlin effect for the TRAPPIST-1 system, we performed high-resolution spectroscopy during transits of planets e, f, and b. The spectra were obtained with the InfraRed Doppler spectrograph on the Subaru 8.2 m telescope, and were supplemented with simultaneous photometry obtained with a 1 m telescope of the

  • Does the binary system LB-1 host a Black Hole?
It was recently proposed that the Galactic binary system LB-1 hosts an ~8+70 solar mass B-star+black hole (BH) wide binary that is X-ray quiet, strongly challenging the current paradigm for the formation of stellar mass black holes in metal rich environments. This claim was quickly disputed in two ways: The Balmer emission lines originally thought

  • Distribution and spectrophotometric classification of basaltic asteroids
We aim to determine the distribution of basaltic asteroids (classified as V-types) based on the spectrophotometric data reported in the MOVIS-C catalogue. A total of 782 asteroids were identified. The observations with all four filters (Y, J, H, Ks), available for 297 of these candidates, allow a reliable comparison with the laboratory data of

  • Detection and Characterization of Oscillating Red Giants: First Results from the TESS Satellite
Since the onset of the "space revolution" of high-precision high-cadence photometry, asteroseismology has been demonstrated as a powerful tool for informing Galactic archeology investigations. The launch of the NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission has enabled seismic-based inferences to go full sky—providing a clear advantage
