  • Collision of protostellar jets in the star-forming region IC 1396N. Analysis of knot proper motions
Context. The bright-rimmed cloud IC 1396N is believed to host one of the few known cases where two bipolar CO outflows driven by young stellar objects collide. The CO outflows are traced by chains of knots of H 2 emission, with enhanced emission at the position of the possible collision. Aims: The aim of this work is to use the proper motions of

  • Cold and hot gas distribution around the Milky-Way - M31 system in the HESTIA simulations
Recent observations have revealed remarkable insights into the gas reservoir in the circumgalactic medium (CGM) of galaxy haloes. In this paper, we characterize the gas in the vicinity of Milky Way and Andromeda analogues in the HESTIA (High resolution Environmental Simulations of The Immediate Area) suite of constrained Local Group (LG)

  • Are dark gaps in barred galaxies a signature of bar corotation?
Stellar bars in galaxies induce morphological features, such as rings, through their resonances. Previous studies suggested that the presence of 'dark-gaps' around the stellar bars, regions of the disk where the difference between the surface brightness along the bar major axis and along the bar minor axis are maximal, can be attributed to the

  • Apophis Planetary Defense Campaign
We describe results of a planetary defense exercise conducted during the close approach to Earth by the near-Earth asteroid (99942) Apophis during 2020 December-2021 March. The planetary defense community has been conducting observational campaigns since 2017 to test the operational readiness of the global planetary defense capabilities. These

  • A Tentative 114 minute Orbital Period Challenges the Ultracompact Nature of the X-Ray Binary 4U 1812-12
We present a detailed time-resolved photometric study of the ultracompact X-ray binary candidate 4U 1812-12. The multicolor light curves obtained with HiPERCAM on the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias show a ≃114 minute modulation similar to a superhump. Under this interpretation, this period should lie very close to the orbital period of the system
