  • The optical nebulae around the symbiotic Miras He 2-147, HM Sagittae and V1016 Cygni
We present narrowband images and [Nii]lambda 658.3 nm spectra, obtained under sub-arcsec seeing conditions, of the extended nebulae around the symbiotic Miras He 2-147, HM Sge, and V1016 Cyg. The main results of this study are: The nebula around He 2-147 is a ring expanding with a velocity of ~ 100 km s(-1) which is inclined at ~ 55(deg) to the

  • The Lithium Test in Young Brown Dwarf Candidates
We present high-, mid-, and low-resolution spectroscopy of the field brown dwarf candidate PC 0025+0447 (M9.5) spanning a 4 yr baseline (1994-1998). The strength of the emission lines and the amount of optical veiling are very variable. Our spectra taken at an epoch of low veiling allow us to detect the lithium resonance line, which was not

  • The Levy-Steinitz rearrangement theorem for duals of metrizable spaces
Extending the classical Levy-Steinitz rearrangement theorem, which in turn extended Riemann's theorem, Banaszczyk proved in 1990/93 that a metrizable, locally convex space is nuclear if and only if the domain of sums of every convergent series (i.e. the set of all elements in the space which are sums of a convergent rearrangement of the series) is

  • The interacting Wolf-Rayet galaxy MKN 8
We present results of narrow-band and broad-band optical CCD imaging together with intermediate-resolution spectroscopy of the Wolf-Rayet galaxy Mkn 8. Analysis of the morphology and kinematics of the object indicates that the strong star formation episode we are witnessing in Mkn 8 is the product of the interaction of two (or three) disk galaxies

  • The Hubble Space Telescope Survey of BL Lacertae Objects: Gravitational Lens Candidates and Other Unusual Sources
We present Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations of seven unusual objects from the HST ``snapshot survey'' of BL Lacertae objects, of which four are gravitational lens candidates. In three cases a double point source is observed: 0033+595, with 1.58" separation, and 0502+675 and 1440+122, each with ~0.3" separation. The last two also show one
