  • Transmission curves and effective refraction indices of MKO near infrared consortium filters at cryogenic temperatures
We report transmission measurements at cryogenic temperatures for 4 broad-band filters of the Mauna Kea Observatories (MKO) near-infrared filter set and 5 narrow-band filters. The spectral scans were collected using the multi-mode IR instrument of the TNG telescope (NICS) in which these filters are permanently mounted and commonly used for

  • The signature of high-velocity gas in the spectra of NGC 4151
The multiwavelength emission spectrum and associated velocity field of the Seyfert prototype NGC 4151 is modeled. Since the thirties NGC 4151 has been the subject of extensive modeling, nuclear photoionization being the basic approach considered by all authors. HST data has impressively revealed the existence of a large range of velocities (100

  • The origin of the ionization of the diffuse ionized gas in spirals. II. Modelling the distribution of ionizing radiation in NGC 157
In this paper we make a quantitative study of the hypothesis that the diffuse Hα emitted from the discs of spiral galaxies owes its origin to the ionizing photons escaping from H SHAPE II regions. The basis of the models is the assumption that a fraction of the Lyman continuum (Lyc) luminosity from the OB stars within each H SHAPE II region escapes

  • The Local Group Census: Planetary nebulae in Sextans B
Five planetary nebulae (PNe) have been discovered in the nearby dwarf irregular galaxy. Emission line images were obtained using the Wide Field Camera of the 2.5 m Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) at La Palma (Spain). The candidate PNe were identified by their point-like appearance and relatively strong [O III] emission-line fluxes. They are located

  • The dynamical status of the cluster of galaxies 1E0657-56
We present the results of a new spectroscopic and photometric survey of the hot X-ray cluster 1E0657-56, at z=0.296. We determine the presence of a low velocity dispersion subcluster, which is offset from the main cluster position by 0.7 Mpc and =~ 600 km s-1. We determine the virial masses and total luminosities of the cluster and its subcluster
