  • The helium spread in the globular cluster 47 Tuc
Spectroscopy has shown the presence of CN band dichotomy and Na-O anticorrelations for 50-70 per cent of the investigated samples in the cluster 47 Tuc, otherwise considered a `normal' prototype of high-metallicity clusters from its photometric analysis. These anomalies are also found in main-sequence stars, suggesting that a consistent second

  • The Environment of Nearby Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies
We are obtaining deep multiwavelength data of a sample of nearby blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDGs) combining broad-band optical/NIR and Hα photometry, optical spectroscopy and 21-cm radio observations. Here we present HI results obtained with the Australia Telescope Compact Array for some BCDGs, all showing evident interaction features in their

  • The Eclipsing X-ray Burster in Terzan 5 is Probably Not the 2000 Transient
The transient LMXB and 11 Hz pulsar currently in outburst in Terzan 5 (ATEL #2919, #2920, #2922, #2924, #2932) has been recently observed to show at least one eclipse of 511 s duration (ATEL #2929). We have checked the Chandra lightcurves (readout streak and dust-scattered halo) from the 2000 July 24 observation (Heinke et al. 2003, ApJ, 590, 809)

  • The Earthshine Project: Applications to the Search of Exoearths
To be able to detect a biosphere in an extrasolar planet, life in that planet should have been able to alter the original composition of the planetary atmosphere. In this way, an external observer could detect the chemical disequilibrium introduced by living organisms in the planet. The earthshine technique has allowed us to determine the best disk

  • The disc-jet coupling in the neutron star X-ray binary 4U 1728-34
The present radio proposal is part of a multi-wavelength campaign focused on the study of the accretion/ejection process in the neutron star X-ray binary system 4U 1728-34. Our intention is to study the behaviour of the inner part of the accretion disc as inferred from the X-ray observations of the Fe emission line and the kHz quasi-periodic

  • The complex structure of Abell 2345: a galaxy cluster with non-symmetric radio relics
Context. The connection of cluster mergers with the presence of extended, diffuse radio sources in galaxy clusters is still debated. Aims: We aim to obtain new insights into the internal dynamics of the cluster Abell 2345. This cluster exhibits two non-symmetric radio relics well studied through recent, deep radio data. Methods: Our analysis is
