  • IC 2602: a lithium depletion boundary age and new candidate low-mass stellar members
We report the results from a photometric and spectroscopic survey of ˜1.4 deg2 of the young open cluster IC 2602. Fourteen objects have been identified as having magnitudes, spectral types and radial velocities consistent with being probable or possible low-mass stellar members of the cluster. We have used the observed location of the lithium

  • HD 64315: A Likely Double Spectroscopic Binary
We present the results of a spectroscopic campaign on the early-type double-lined binary HD 64315. The radial velocity curve was calculated using a fit to model atmospheres, considering two components. After this, we find strong evidences suggesting that HD 64315 is composed of two binary systems, one of them eclipsing. We re-analyse HD 64315

  • HD 306414: Optical Counterpart to the Peculiar X-ray Transient IGR J11215-5952
We present high-resolution spectroscopy of HD 306414, optical counterpart to the hard X-ray transient IGR J11215-5952, an object belonging to the class of Supergiant Fast X-ray Transients. We derive a spectral type B0.5 Ia for HD 306414 and determine its stellar parameters from an atmosphere model fit to the spectrum. Our data, taken around the

  • Ground-based follow-up in relation to Kepler asteroseismic investigation
The Kepler space mission, successfully launched in March 2009, is providing continuous and high-precision photometry of thousands of stars simultaneously. The uninterrupted time-series of stars of all known pulsation types are a precious source for asteroseismic studies. The Kepler data do not provide information on the physical parameters, such as

  • Granulation Signatures in the Spectrum of the Very Metal-poor Red Giant HD 122563
A very high resolution (R = λ/Δλ = 200, 000), high signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ~= 340) blue-green spectrum of the very metal-poor ([Fe/H] ~= -2.6) red giant star HD 122563 has been obtained by us at McDonald Observatory. We measure the asymmetries and core wavelengths of a set of unblended Fe I lines covering a wide range of line strength. Line

  • Four years of HELAS
The European Coordination Action on HELio- and ASteroseismology (HELAS) has completed its fourth and final year of initial funding by the European Commission. Set up as a network which combines solar and stellar physics communities in the important and vigorously evolving field of seismology, HELAS has been able to coordinate the efforts of
