  • EBL constraints using a sample of TeV gamma-ray emitters measured with the MAGIC telescopes
MAGIC is a stereoscopic system of two Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes operating in the very high energy (VHE) range from about 50 GeV to over 50 TeV. The VHE gamma-ray spectra measured at Earth carry an imprint of the extra-galactic background light (EBL) and can be used to study the EBL density and its evolution in time. In the last few

  • Dynamical Study of the Exoplanet Host Binary System HD 106515
HD 106515 AB (STF1619 AB) is a high common proper motion and common radial velocity binary star system composed of two G-type bright stars located at 35 pc and separated by about 7 arcsec. This system was observed by the Hipparcos satellite with a precision in distance and proper motion of 3 and 2%, respectively. The system includes a circumprimary

  • Dust in Clusters: Separating the Contribution of Galaxies and Intracluster Media
We have analyzed a sample of 327 clusters of galaxies, spanning the range of 0.06–0.70 in redshift. Strong constraints on their mean intracluster emission of dust have been obtained using maps and catalogs from the Herschel MerMES project; within a radius of 5 arcmin centered in each cluster, the 95% C.L. limits obtained are 86.6, 48.2, and 30.9

  • Disentangling the stellar components of the metal-poor Milky Way
Some studies of the Milky Way halo and all studies of the thick disk populations suffer from difficulties cleanly separating out one galactic component from another. This is largely due to magnitude limitations, which produces a bias towards local solar neighborhood samples, where the separation of the thick disk from the halo populations of the

  • Discovery of a Very Bright and Intrinsically Very Luminous, Strongly Lensed Lyα Emitting Galaxy at z = 2.82 in the BOSS Emission-Line Lens Survey
We report the discovery of a very bright (r = 20.16), highly magnified, and yet intrinsically very luminous Lyα emitter (LAE) at z=2.82. This system comprises four images in the observer plane with a maximum separation of ∼ 6\prime\prime and it is lensed by a z=0.55 massive early-type galaxy. It was initially identified in the Baryon Oscillation

  • Covariance of lucky images: performance analysis
The covariance of ground-based lucky images is a robust and easy-to-use algorithm that allows us to detect faint companions surrounding a host star. In this paper, we analyse the relevance of the number of processed frames, the frames' quality, the atmosphere conditions and the detection noise on the companion detectability. This analysis has been
