Description
The SAURON team recently completed an integral-field survey of nearby early-type galaxies. Relying primarily on the ionised-gas and stellar linestrength (age, metallicity, and overabundance) maps, I will briefly review the evidence for recent star formation in those objects. Particular attention will be paid to the apparent relationship between young stars and compact kinematically decoupled cores, suggesting recent accretion. Complementary evidence will be provided by parallel imaging in the near and far-UV using GALEX, to directly map young stars, and from targeted CO synthesis observations, revealing a number of well-behaved central molecular disks. All observations suggest that a number of nearby early-type galaxies are currently in the process of forming kpc-size disks.
