Description

Photonic quantum imaging techniques have proven to be a powerful tool for overcoming classical limitations. The main approaches exploit either nonlinear interferometers, where induced coherence allows a sample to be probed at wavelengths that are never detected, or coincidence measurements between correlated photon pairs. These techniques are not restricted to imaging, however: the same mechanisms also give access to spectral and temporal information, enabling spectroscopy, time-of-flight ranging, and optical coherence tomography. Their reach therefore extends to a much wider range of sensing applications. In addition, continuous research and development of new detection schemes enables new imaging and sensing protocols that can potentially enhance established classical techniques and open up entirely new sensing modalities.
In this talk I will take photonic quantum imaging as a starting point and give an overview of how the same ideas and resources extend across a broader landscape of emerging quantum sensing approaches
