It is now 30 years since the official inauguration of the Canary Island Observatories, the Teide Observatory on the Island of Tenerife, and the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the Island of La Palma, as well as the headquarters of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canaries (IAC) in La Laguna, Tenerife.
To commemorate this anniversary, and as done last February 25th in the Leal Theatre (Teatro Leal) of San Cristobal de La Laguna, on Wednesday April 15th a living exhibition of science popularization will be celebrated in the Guiniguada Theatre (Teatro Guiniguada) of Las Palmas, at 19.00, open to all of the general public. In addition there will be a specific session during the morning for high school students, which has been previously arranged.
The event, organized by the IAC, the Tribuna Fórum, and the Teatro Guiniguada of Las Palmas, depending the Cultural Directorate of the Canary Islands Government, will comprise a series of short presentations by researchers of the IAC, who will explain their own lines of work, illustrating the contributions by the Institute in the different fields of astrophysics, and the present and future instrumentation in the Canary Island Observatories.
An institutional presentation by the director of the IAC, Rafael Rebolo will be followed by talks from the astrophysicists José Alberto Rubiño, showing the advances in Cosmology, Cristina Ramos, in the field of the Formation and Evolution of Galaxies, Nayra Rodríguez, in the field of Stars and the Interstellar Medium, Héctor Socas, in solar physics, and Enric Pallé with the most recent advances in the study of Exoplanets. All the talks will be moderated by the astrophysicist and popularizer Alfred Rosenberg, also of the IAC.
