Description
This Annual Report documents the impressive breadth and vitality of the research that is being carried out at the two sites of the Astrophysical Observatories in the Canaries. The reason for this success is the diversity of facilities, ranging from the currently largest optical telescope – the GranTeCan – to a collection of small, highly specialized telescopes which do specific observations for stellar physics particularly well; from high energy astrophysics with detectors for Cerenkov radiation to the infra-red and to microwaves. Many of these facilities are community operated, which ensures that focused forefront research goals are carried out by highly motivated scientists. It is this mixture of facility telescopes that serve larger communities and dedicated experiments which generate a vibrant environment for creativity.
