Dr. Noelia Martínez did her PhD thesis as a resident at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) with the topic "Pioneering use of an Adaptive Optics plenoptic system for free-space communications", graduating in 2019. Previously, she worked as an electronic engineer at the European Space Agency (ESO) and at the IAC (2014-2016).

After three years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) at the Australian National University, she took up a permanent position leading the Laser Guide Star Research & Development for Astronomy and Laser Communications research group in 2022.

To date, Dr. Martinez has received Australian and US government funding as Principal Investigator (PI) on several projects of national and international significance.

Noelia is also a Project Scientist in the Adaptive Optics system for the Subaru Telescope, being responsible for the Natural Guide Star Wavefront Sensor, Laser Guide Star Wavefront Sensor and Laser Guide Star Facility work packages.

She currently acts as a consultant in the Optical Communications group at the IAC.

To date, Dr. Martínez has supervised 13 students, including 2 Master's theses and the co-direction of two doctoral theses in progress; she has also participated in the organisation of numerous conferences and workshops. In addition to her research experience, Noelia is, since 2020, the head of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access Committee of the RSAA.
