Description
We present a color magnitude diagram (CMD) in the V and I bands reaching
4 magnitudes below the turn off (TO) and intermediate resolution spectra
for 4 giant branch (GB) stars. The spectra allowed us to determine the
cluster metallicity and radial velocity for the cluster Pal 1. The
metallicity has been determined using the CaII triplet and other three
clusters (M2, M15 & M71) in order to calibrate the method.
Preliminary results suggest a high metallicity (similar to M71) and a
radial velicity of ~ -120 Km/s. A comparison with other well-observed
clusters and theoretical models suggest that Pal 1 has an age of 8 plus
or minus 2 Gyrs, which would make it either the youngest globular
cluster or one of the oldest open clusters of our Galaxy.
