Mirjana Pović, whose main field of research is the formation and evolution of galaxies with active nuclei, defended her thesis "The Study of the population of active galactic nuclei in deep surveys” in 2010, supervised by the astrophysicist Ana Maria Pérez García, then a researcher at the IAC, and by Miguel Sánchez Portal, of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). She is now working in the Ethiopian Institute of Space Science and Technology, and collaborates as an associate researcher with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC). Pović has been proposed in the category of the Inspiring Science Award although she will have to wait until the end of the year until the winners of the awards are known.

The same will be true for the Innovating Science Award for which the astrophysicist and scientific Communicator Marja Seidel has been proposed for the “Sky and Earth” initiative whose aim is to give an impulse to girls via activities in scientific research, with special emphasis on girls from rural areas. Seidel, who defended her thesis, directed by the IAC researcher Jesus Falcón, in 2015, has been working since May 2018 in NASA’s Infrared Processing and Analysis Centre (IPAC), in Pasadena, California.
