The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) will award the title of "IAC Honorary Professor" to the British scientist Stephen Hawking for his important contributions to cosmology, to the physics of black holes, and to the popularization of science. The academic act will take place next Monday, June 20th at 17.30 h at the IAC headquarters in La Laguna.

The cosmologist and theoretical physicist is in Tenerife for the tribute which he will receive during the third edition of Starmus, the multidisciplinary festival which combines art, music, astrophysics and space science, and which will take place from June 27th to July 2nd in the Pyramid of Arona (in the Mare Nostrum complex), in Tenerife.

This will be the second time that Hawking visits the IAC, as he did so in 2014 in order to get to know the research which is carried out in the Institute and at the Canary Island Observatories, as well as the teaching and technology projects of the IAC.
